ISO 9001:2008

Click for WECO’s ISO certificate.

We often read or hear about the ISO 9001 quality management system standards.

Over 100 countries have participated in the elaboration of this series of international standards. These standards were deliberately made to be flexible so as to be applicable to all types of goods and services.
The word ISO means universal in Greek. So universal means applicable all over the world in any commercial or public endeavor.

The first series of standards were published in 1987. They were revised in 1994, 2000 and 2008. ISO mandates call for a review of these standards every five years or so.

The present situation is:
ISO 9000:2005 Quality management systems - Fundamentals and vocabulary
ISO 9001:2008 Quality management systems Requirements
ISO 9004:2000 (reaffirmed 2005) Quality management systems Guidelines for performance improvements

Companies and organizations get registered to (certified to) the ISO 9001:2008 standard by accredited registrars. These registrars are accredited by national accreditation bodies who themselves are accredited by the ISO organization.

ISO 9002 and 9003 no longer exist. They were less demanding versions of ISO 9001.

ISO 9000 and ISO 9004 are not quality system standards. They are explanatory documents or guidelines to aid in the implementation and improvement of ISO 9001 quality systems.

WECO Electrical Connectors Inc. maintains an ISO 9001:2008 quality system that is registered with SAI Global, under file number 2982.
WECO first registered to ISO 9002:1987 in 1994. WECO upgraded to ISO 9001:1994 in 1995, ISO9001:2000 in 2001, and ISO 9001:2008 in 2009.

WECO has found that its ISO system works effectively and efficiently. The use of local area network computer technology is important, as is a valued added continual improvement management policy.
